Model Congress? What’s Model Congress? Well, it’s essentially arguing your beliefs in an organized manner, for the sake of this article. This past Wednesday, the Rambam Rhetoric Team competed in the NSDAsanctioned tournament. The team had one of their own bills submitted for debate, including the “The Work Opportunity & Redevelopment Keynesian Economic Reform (WORKER) Act,” which sought to infuse communities with new funds for housing, boosting the job market, quality of life, and cost of living. One of the main points of contention was whether an investment of $50Bn a year would be a useless expense or a fruitful investment. As a real estate enthusiast myself, I understand the immense potential gain for communities when the government allocates money for housing projects. The simple act of debate on the location of said project would cause a great ripple effect, drawing healthy attention to these underserved communities. When news is out that said community will have a governmentfunded development, investors race to take part. With correct guardrails and incentives such as tax deductions for partially stabilized new development buildings, this will only improve the state of the community. Bringing new developments = Blue Collar well -paid jobs. These developments are proposed to be transit-oriented, which will ultimately decrease the cost of living. It’s estimated that lower -income households spend 30% of their after-tax earnings on transportation; this bill would eliminate that. Our bill showed the rhetoric teams’ strong community focus and their dedication to pushing for better living conditions for their constituents. Congratulations to Henach Barningham for coming in 4th overall!
