Lag B’Omer was no ordinary Chaggigah at Rambam Mesivta: It was the long-awaited return of Rebbe Emeritus, Rabbi Ari Boiangiu, to his home on 284 Mott Avenue! Rabbi Boiangiu, a beloved Rambam Rebbe for over a decade, recently took his skills to Brooklyn but his talmidim never forgot the lessons he taught, and the memory of his epic guitar riffs still echo in the rambam mesivta halls! The Chaggigah was rocking and Rebbeim and talmidim alike were thrilled to have the beloved Rabbi Boiangiu back i n t h e f o l d ! Part II of the Lag B’Omer festivities at Rambam continue on Monday for a day of either paintballing or sports and fun at the park on May 19th. Sadr. Goldman Siyum and Graduation! Recently, Principal Hillel Goldman held an assembly where he discussed his journey through graduate school and made a Siyum on Meseches Megillah just hours before he graduated Yeshiva University Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education. Mazel tov to Dr. Goldman, his parents, family, and especially to his very supportive a n d s w e e t w i f e . And thank you to them all for another round of ice-cream! While the school suspects there will be no more graduate degrees, there is hope for Rambam Hosts Civic Spirit ’24 Cohort m o r e . The evening began with a workshop on “Civic Love Language” facilitated by Ms. Hecht. Musing an interdisciplinary and multimedia approach, the educators reacted to art, music, political cartoons, famous quotes, and more to discover their particular proclivities towards Civics. Whether it was through patriotism, activism, personal responsibly, literacy, virtue, or community the educators learned a great deal about themselves and were committed to using this knowledge to enhance their teaching. Following the session and a delicious Smash House dinner provided by Civic Spirit, members of the Cohort were asked to share their Capstone Projects. Each member of the Cohort completed their Civic Spirit Fellowship by implementing a Civics related lesson, unit, or program into their schools. As colleagues and now friends, it was a source of pride for everyone involved to see what fruit the seeds of the 2024 Civic Spirit Cohort yielded. Mr. Jeff Lazar from Shulamith shared his desire to have students understand how imagery shapes elections while Ms. Laura Eisner, Head of Humanities at HANC, had her students explore their Jewish American identities. Sadr. Hillel Goldman, Principal of Rambam, presented his “Civic Spirit Film Festival” project where his students analyzed a film through the lens of American values and connected it to foundational texts from Adams, to Jefferson, to Whitman, to Alexis de Tocqueville a n d m o r e . Many of the members of the Cohort helped institute Civic Spirit Clubs for their high school students and the engagement with community service, activism, and citizenship continues. Special thank you to the Civic Spirit organization and to Ms.
