With Assemblies This past Thursday the stars and stripes greeted Rambam students with the recognition that it was 9/11 and a chance to remember that dark day. A day that saw tragedy but also the heroism of the First Responders and those who fought back. The first assembly was held by Rav Moshe Taragin of Gush Etzion, who made a direct connection between 9/11 and the topics of today.

He also discussed the new Rambam Gush Zionism Fellowship and how an appreciation of Israeli history, and the history of defending democracy can shed new light on 9/11 and beyond. The next assembly was coordinated by Rambam’s Rosh HaYeshiva, Rabbi Zev Meir Friedman, who introduced Mark Weiss, one of the first Hatzalah members to arrive at Ground Zero on 9/11. He discussed his desperate attempt to help others and survive the day.

He also shared about the impact 9/11 has had on his life and on his life as a Jew. Both assemblies left students with a greater appreciation of the sacrifices made on 9/11 and left them with a sense of mission moving forward: A mission that involves learning more to do more.
