This past Wednesday, the Rambam Finance Club was pleased to host Bobrow of Norman Bobrow & Co. For an interview. Norman Bobrow leads a prominent NYC tenant-rep leasing firm and is a major philanthropist and supporter of Jewish causes; he is also Orthodox himself. Avichai Yosipov and Finance Club Heads Yosef Harris and Aaron Grimm led the interview.

The interview began with Norman sharing his background and his journey into the real estate industry. He spoke about how he overcame his dyslexic challenges through modern technologies such as auto-type and narrator, emthere’s a way. The conversation then pivoted to understanding one’s capabilities and determining a career path, whether it be a salaried position or a commissionbased sales role.

He explained that he began on a salary before a headhunter recognized his unique skill set and encouraged him to pursue a career in sales. He stressed that even with natural ability, success ultimately comes down to work ethic. Several club members had interned at his firm this past summer, with an exception made for their age due to their outstanding business experience.

Although he initially encouraged them to enjoy their youth and attend summer camp, the members advocated for the opportunity and ultimately earned his approval. These students saw firsthand how such a successful businessman continues to work arriving at the office earlier than most and leaving after a full day of work Monday through Friday, even when he could afford to relax. This led to a key question: what keeps him motivated?

He explained that his primary motivation for earning money has always been to support philanthropic causes. He currently sits on the board of many organizations serves as the treasurer of a Jewish day school, where he has witnessed a growing challenge—many families are unable to afford the high cost of tuition, often reaching thousands of dollars per year.

He expressed concern that withstudents may struggle to remain on the proper path, and he has therefore taken it upon himself to support individuals in need of assistance. When asked how he decides which causes and charities to he acknowledged that it is an extremely difficult decision. With so many worthy causes, particularly within the Jewish community, one must approach giving with focus and intentionality.

For those Finance Club members interested in investing, he shared that his preference is the S&P 500, following the guidance of his mentor and role model, Warren Buffett. We would like to extend our appreciation to Bobrow for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with us, even if only over Zoom. The Finance Club as a whole gained valuable career and life insight from this discussion. Stay tuned for the next interview!
