This past Thursday night, the Meet the Author Book Club traveled out to the LIU Performing Arts Center. There, they had the opportunity to hear from world-renowned author Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell spoke about what he called the most overlooked emotion; Anger. He talked about how anger does not define a person; rather, what they do when they are in a regular headspace shows who a person truly is. Malcom spoke about this idea in criminology and history. He mentioned how the majority of violent crime is really a result of anger, not a premeditated motive. He also talked about Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Fredrick Douglas and their bumpy road to freedom. Gladwell even talked about Jackie Robinson and his challenges with integration and anger. On top of hearing Gladwell speak, we were lucky enough to watch a brief conversation between him and former congressman Steve Israel. Questions asked covered topics ranging from AI to football and who he is supporting this Sunday (the Patriots). The students were very lucky to be able to meet Malcolm Gladwell after the event and take a picture, as well as ask questions and even snag an autograph. Students were also able to purchase pre-signed copies of Gladwell’s books. Thank you to LIU for hosting this amazing event. Thank you to Dr Goldman and Naomi for organizing the trip. Thank you to all the guys who came and made a big Kiddush Hashem. Kavi Lax (Senior) Huge Win for JV Hockey
