Richard Altabe, HALB Lower School Principal. Students from Frisch, Ezra, Central, Ma’ayanot, HAFTR, and Rambam gave Model Lessons on either Shavuot, or the upcoming Parshiot. The Model Lessons had to have an interactive component with the audience and some level of board-work. Many students had elaborate Smart Board presentations and outside the box “hooks” which made for memorable and meaningful lessons. After being introduced by Rosh HaYeshiva, Rabbi Zev Meir Friedman, Mr. Altabe spoke about his career in Chinuch. From first wanting to become a dentist, to teaching in public school, and then going from Flatbush, to Darchei, to Magen David, and now HALB, his was a career that truly made an impact. When he told the young participants that “Other people make money, I make people,” his words resonated in a way that, G-d willing, will inspire a new generation of people dedicated to giving back. Following his address, Rabbi Yitz Milworn, Rambam’s Director of Student Activities, presented the Rambam Rabbinic Fellows, Ezra Feder, Moshe Rosenthal, and Eli Weiss with their Rabbinic Certificates of Completion and Uriel Sussman was recognized as well though he was in Israel and he could not be there to accept his Certificate. Then, after having the results calculated by the founder of the Model Chinuch League, Dr. Hillel Goldman, Principal of Rambam, it was announced that Nathan Kohl of Frisch won “Best Lesson Plan.” Jacob Gordon of Rambam was then awarded with the “Best Presentation” plaque and the “Outstanding Teacher Award” went to Ephraim Ganchrow of Rambam. “Best Teacher” was won by Emily Baturov of Ezra Academy. It was an inspiring and meaningful night and a special thank you goes to the Reb Yitz and the Model Chinuch League Assistant Directors, Eliana Goldman of Central, Jacob Gordon of Rambam, and Suri Seplowitz of Ma’ayanot for making it all happen. Lab B’Omer Fun Part II! This past week, students at Rambam Mesivta had the option to go to a high-energy paintball outing or play sports in the park in honor of Lag B’Omer. The students who went paintballing were armed with 500 paintballs each. Their afternoon was full of tremendous fun and adrenaline as they dodged behind barriers and paintballs whizzed by their heads. At this same time, the students who went to the park enjoyed games of basketball, baseball, and many other high -intensity games. Whether students were dodging paintballs or soaking up the sun, both trips offered a muchneeded break from the classroom and a chance to connect with classmates in honor of Lag B’Omer. Thank you to the administration for facilitating these wonderful activities!
