Under the guidance of Principal Mr. Hillel Goldman, a delegation of students represented the school in an event dedicated to promoting unity, resilience, and proactive advocacy on behalf of those fighting in Eretz Yisroel. The rally was attended by prominent political figures, including senators, congresspeople, and notable activists who delivered impactful speeches emphasizing the importance of solidarity and active citizenship. The students heard from distinguished guests including Singer John Ondrasik ("Five for Fighting"), who recently released a new single "Song for the Hostages. " Performer Idan Raichel of The Idan Raichel Project and Olympic wrestler Amit Elor who in August became the youngest American wrestler - man or woman - to win an Olympic gold medal. She spoke beautifully about the Israeli Olympic team embraced her as one of their own at the Paris Olympics. Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and Rep. Virgina Foxx (R-NC) also spoke as did numerous governors and senators and Ambassador Dan Shapiro. Principal Goldman expressed his pride in the students' enthusiasm, stating, “Our students are here to not just witness history, but to be part of it. They were part of something bigger than themselves and to be in the presence of families of the hostages and to daven here with them in this vicinity was important and something they will be proud of for years to come.” As the day unfolded, it was clear that Rambam Mesivta’s presence at the rally served as a testament to its mission of nurturing not only academic excellence but also thoughtful, engaged leaders Former US Ambassador to Israel Visits Rambam This week Rambam had the privilege of welcoming former US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman. Ambassador Friedman was the ambassador under the first Trump administration. The ambassador, who was brought in at the behest of Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zev Meir Friedman, talked to the students about his views on how we should be proceeding in the war in and future challenges regarding Israel. Ambassador Friedman had a big role in the Abraham Accords and the moving of the US Embassy to Jerusalem. Since the war broke out on October 7th, many people have found different ways to cope and focus their feelings for Israel. Some have gone to Israel to help, some have made donations, some spread stories of the war, and some wrote books. Ambassador Friedman wrote a book called One Jewish State. The book focuses on many different things including the fact that there are dozens of Christian states and dozens of Muslim states and only one Jewish one. Even though there is only one Jewish State, that is where the most conflict arises and why the continuing of Israel’s success is so crucial to the future of the Jewish people and Western values. Ambassador Friedman came in and signed about 200 copies of his new book for every student and faculty member of Rambam to take home. Following his presentation there was a question and answer session where the ambassador fielded questions on topics ranging from the war in Ukraine; what students going to Israel should focus on; and what is in store for the political future of the ambassador himself. We thank Ambassador Friedman for coming in and hope for him to come back in the future.
