The Rambam Writers’ Guild is back and better than ever! The most recent meeting, held on Tuesday, showcased some amazing stories. Some were very dark, some had happy endings, and one even had a plot twist at the end! Excitement filled the room as the guild meeting began, because everyone had something to say about the stories. There was even Carlos and Gabby’s to eat! Whenever the Writers’ Guild has a meeting, it follows the same structure. Before the meeting starts, everyone writes a story, and a packet is compiled. On the day of the guild, everyone comes into Room 012, Carlos and Gabby’s arrive, and then Guilderbeast Rafi Taubenfeld and Assistant Guilderbeast Betzalel Graber lead the meeting by going through each story and calling on four people to critique it. The author of the stories is not revealed until after the criticism ends, allowing people to say whatever they want. The only rule is that they can be as honest as they want, but they must explain how the story could improve if they didn’t like it. There’s a reason why the Writers’ Guild has the slogan: “I like your story, but…” Criticisms ranged from negative to positive. If a story was well received, it was praised and cheered when the author revealed that it was his story. Even when a story did not receive the best reception, the author still learned what could make the story better. This guild featured sixteen stories—a record number over the course of the year!
